Every year on March 17th the Irish and even just the Irish at heart come together all over the world to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day. What started as a day of religious feasts for Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, has become an international day of festivals and celebrations of the Irish culture that come together with parades, music, dancing, special foods, shamrocks, and a whole lot of green and gold!
History of Saint Patrick’s Day
Saint Patrick’s Day is Celebrated on March 17th because that is the anniversary of the death of Saint Patrick. Since the occasion started in Ireland, as the Irish spread out far and wide, they brought with them their history and festivities of the Saint Patrick’s Day celebration. The greatest recognition of all is, of course, in Ireland. Except for eateries and bars, all organizations close on March seventeenth. Massive urban areas and residential communities alike celebrate with parades, “wearing of the green,” music and melodies, Irish nourishment and drink, and exercises for children, for example, artworks, shading, and amusements. A few groups even go so far as to dye rivers or streams green!
18th Annual Greater Manassas St. Patrick’s Day Parade
On March 11, 2017, those ready to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the Greater Manassas, Virginia area can partake in the 18th Greater Manassas St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This is sure to be a fun parade that catches the celebratory soul of the joyous Irish occasion. Come out in green and enjoy the grand Irish tradition of St. Patrick’s Day. Watch and listen to several bands, Irish dance groups, and Irish social groups.
The Greater Manassas St. Patrick’s Day Parade highlights Irish artists, the Northern, Virginia Firefighters, Emerald Society Pipe and Drum, Washington Scottish Pipe and Drum, and the Marine Corps Color Guard, notwithstanding numerous other neighborhood gatherings and associations. The Greater Manassas St. Patrick’s Day Parade course begins at on Prescott Ave at Quarry Road and ends at Harris Pavilion, Just before Grant Avenue.
