You can even do a little research ahead of time by checking out the adoptable beagles that will be at the event.

You can also prepare for the adoption event by checking out some fun beagle facts.

They Used to Be Tiny

You’ve seen some tiny beagle puppies in your day, but did you know that all beagles used to be miniature? When the breed first came about, beagles were just around 8 or 9 inches tall. They were so small you could have put one in your pocket and carried it around. Sometime down the road, the miniature dogs were bred into the beagles of today.

The Name Has Meaning

Ever noticed how beagles love to talk? They are a chatty bread, and that’s how they got their name. Beagle is actually a French word that means “loudmouth.” Of course, as you know, all that talking is adorable. Beagles talk so much they’re like members of the family, so you’ll love your new little loudmouth.

Famous People Love Beagles

It seems that everyone loves beagles, including famous people. Queen Elizabeth I was quite fond of beagles. She actually owned the pocket-sized version of the dog. These pups could fit in her hand.

President Lyndon Johnson was also a fan of the breed. His two beagles lived in the White House with him, and they showed up in many a picture during his presidency.

Then there’s Barry Manilow. His beagle named Bagel was on some of his album covers back in the day.
