Do you long for a simpler time when life was slow, people were friendly, and the sound of a far-off train whistle was a call to adventure and freedom? If your heart harkens to the time of the great iron horses and endless lengths of track stretched as far as the horizon in all directions, then why not step back in time this June? Discover what you are looking for when you attend the 23rd Annual Manassas Heritage Railway Festival.
A Festival Worth Hitting The Rails For
Every year this charming and historic town in Virginia brings back the glory of those days when steam was king, and railroad barons were the rulers of the world. Bring your family out for one of the truly unique experiences of their lifetime. The festival features a lot of great activities for everyone young and old including train memorabilia, live music performances from some of the best folk bands around, specialty vendors, and more. Perhaps the highlight of the festival, other than the great antique trains themselves, is the elaborate model train setups that bring the grand glory of the railroad world back to life.
The Trains are The Star of The Show
The main attraction, however, has to be the chance to board an antique train and take a real ride from Manassas to Clifton and back. If you have never actually ridden a steam powered train, then you are in for a treat like no other. Take in the incredible scenery, or sit back and close your eyes, letting dreams of days gone by fill your head.
Just The Beginning of Your Manassas Adventure
The festival takes place June 3rd, 2017, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm in Historic Downtown Manassas. The festival itself is free, but excursion tickets for the train are for purchase. You may purchase tickets for the excursions at the train platform. Before and after the event, why not take a little while to explore beautiful and historic downtown. Centrally located 30 miles from the nation’s capital and a short drive from the stunning blue ridge mountains, it’s one of the most significant downtowns in the country concerning history and culture.
