The RAV4 has been in the Toyota line for 20 years, so it seems long overdue that Manassas drivers finally are able to get their hands on the hybrid version of this compact SUV. As a gas model, the 2106 RAV4 has many things a car shopper will like. The hybrid model should appeal to these same people, as well as those looking for an alternative to a full-on gas vehicle. Here are some things to know about the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid.
2016 RAV4 Hybrid Engine
The RAV4 Hybrid uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine paired with an electric motor. The engine puts out 112 horsepower and the motor starts its contribution in 141 horsepower. The rear independent motor supplies another 67 horsepower. Storage for the system comes in a sealed nickel metal hydride 244.8 volt battery under the rear seat. The total output for the gas-electric powertrain is 194 horsepower, which beats out the 176 horsepower of the gas-only version. There is an estimated 34 mpg city/31 mpg highway, 33 combined mpg* with the RAV4 Hybrid.
2016 RAV4 Hybrid Exterior
All RAV4 trims got a facelift this year, including the RAV4 Hybrid. The new makeover gives its previous aerodynamics and stylish appearance more ways to stand out. The front looks more like an SUV than a crossover. The RAV4 Hybrid also has a combination of daytime running lights, LED headlights and taillights, and Hi-Lo Headlights.
2016 RAV4 Hybrid Interior
The interior on all RAV4s, including the hybrid, has been updated and includes 6.1 inch touch screen, backup camera, Bluetooth wireless technology, as well as heated front seats. The 60/40 folding second seat will also make Manassas RAV4 Hybrid owners happy.
2016 RAV4 Hybrid Safety
The 2016 RAV4 Hybrid is among the first Toyota vehicles to get Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) package, which will be in all Toyotas by 2017. This includes:
- Pre-Collision System (with Forward Collision Warning and automatic emergency brake)
- Lane Departure Alert
- Automatic High Beams
- Pedestrian Pre-Collision System
- Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
The hybrid also gets Blind Spot Mirror and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
2016 RAV4 Hybrid Awards
The Toyota RAV4 has won several awards, so expect the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid to do the same. These awards include a 2015 IIHS Top Safety Pick, one of the Top Most Affordable SUVs of 2015 from KBB, 2015 Lowest Maintenance Costs Winner by IntelliChoice, and 2015 SmartChoice Operating Costs Winner by IntelliChoice.
